Child support?

Is the current method of child support fair? I don't see the logic as it currently exists. I want to hear other methods.

I personally think that parents should be equal in monetary expenses. This is contentious in the current system because of precedent; there are decades of rulings where there the woman could not support herself and a child so the bread winner picked up the financials. Today the world is completely different, women have vast resources at their disposal and are perfectly capable. Our laws are unfair because of decades of change in the socioeconomic norm while precedent has stagnated. It's time to end 'baby as a paycheck' and start concentrating on a more balanced approach to parenting.
